Community Can Help Kiwanis Reach More Youth

The Kiwanis 14th Annual Auction for Youth on April 4 will feature a prime rib dinner and auction to raise money for scholarships and student service clubs.

Last year, Kiwanis gave $16,000 worth of scholarships to students. Money raised also supports the Terrific Kids program in local elementary schools, which awards students for academic improvement, the middle school Builders Club and high school Key Club, which are both youth versions of Kiwanis.

“Kiwanis is a service organization that teaches giving back to the community,” said Kiwanis Lt. Governor of Division 17 for the Southwest District Bobby Davis. The youth programs teach leadership skills and the spirit of community service, he added.

This year’s event takes place at the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino. Tickets for dinner cost $60 person.

Buy tickets for a table of eight for $450 — a $30 savings. Tickets can be purchased at the Roundup office, at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, or from any Kiwanis member.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner starts after an hour-long no-host bar that begins at 5 p.m. A silent auction will precede the 7:30 p.m. live auction.

Auction items include a red satin jewelry box from Payson Jewelers valued at $40, a one-night stay at Bison Ranch Resort and dinner for two at the Wild Woman Saloon and Grill in Overgaard valued at $160, and a car detailing, wash and polish certificate valued at $100 from MJ’s Mobile Car Detailing Service.

Vacation giveaways include a one-week stay at the Plaza Resort and Spa in Palm Springs from July 3 through 10, and one week at the Playa Del Sol Costa Sur at Puerta Vallarta from June 6 to 13. Tickets for each vacation raffle cost $20, and only 200 for each giveaway will be sold. The drawing is April 4, and winners need not be present at the auction to win.

“We want to try to get as many people at the auction as possible so we can raise money for all these Kiwanis programs,” said Davis.

“This year’s fund-raising goal is $27,000.”

Call Davis at (928) 978-4323 to donate items for the auction, for ticket information or other details.
