The sharpshooter who set the Payson High School record for most three-balls in a single game has attained Arizona prep basketball’s greatest accomplishment.
Cody York was chosen as a member of the 1A-3A North All-Star team in a vote by Arizona Basketball Coaches Association members March 21 in Phoenix.
As an all-star, York and his North teammates will play the South all-stars at 4 p.m., May 23 in the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, the home of the Phoenix Suns.
Prior to tip-off, Phoenix Suns general manager and former pro Steve Kerr will speak to the all-stars.
Last season, in the Horns’ state opening-round 75-46 victory over Sedona Red Rock, York set a school record for three-pointers sinking eight of 11 shots from beyond the arc.
At the conclusion of the season, York was named the East Region Player of the Year and last week was chosen honorable mention on The Arizona Republic’s 1A-3A All-State team.
Midway through the 2008-2009 campaign, York went on a scoring tear to eventually finish as the East’s top gun, averaging 16.3 ppg.
He also built a reputation as a leaper who could throw down dunks with the 3A’s best, and at the same time cash in from outside as evidenced by his hitting 53 of 147 attempts from beyond the 19-foot-9-inch arc.
York also led the team in rebounding (170) and in steals (77). Defensively, he blocked 22 shots, second on the team.
Set to join York on the North All-Stars from the East is Snowflake’s Payton Flake and T.J. Peters of Round Valley.
Other stars are Jashua Nelson (Rough Rock), Advian Curtis (Hopi), Trevor Little (Chino Valley), Stacey Berg (Winslow) Christopher Tallwood and Derek Mitchell (both of Window Rock).
Ricky Green will coach the North team.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
