The Payson Children’s Theater Group will present “The Heavenly Fruit Stand” at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 2 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 700 E. Wade Lane and at 6 p.m., Sunday, May 3 at Ponderosa Baptist Church, 1800 N. Beeline Highway.
“The Heavenly Fruit Stand” is an original work by Janice Weldon, the director and founder of The Payson Children’s Theater Group.
It teaches children about the importance of the fruit of the Spirit referred to in the Bible, and the wisdom of incorporating kindness, peace, joy, love and self control into everyday life. The production includes not only many vocal performances, but also drama vignettes that include the parting of the Red Sea and the tumbling of the walls of Jericho.
The Payson Children’s Theater Group, a group of approximately 32 first- through sixth-graders, is concluding its second successful season.
Rehearsals for season three will begin at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Ponderosa Baptist Church. The program is open to children in the first- through fifth-grades, with sixth-grade students accepted if they have transportation.
Members of the ensemble are not required to have any special training in music or drama, but they must be willing to make a commitment to attend rehearsals, concentrate on the music being learned, be willing to memorize and to be cooperative. In most cases, transportation to and from rehearsals is provided. There is no charge for children to participate in the choral group.
