Although this is springtime and Mother Nature is getting ready to show off her colors with all the flowers and the lilacs sprouting their great smelling blooms, a worrisome time is growing near.
As you may know, there has not been any measurable rainfall in quite a while. The lack of moisture is a dangerous time for our ponderosa pine forest. An example of the dryness and the likelihood of fire is now happening near Pine. At the last count, this fire has consumed about 100 acres and is human-caused.
If you have relatives who will be visiting you, pass the word on about how volatile the forest is at this time of year and that they need to limit their desire to make huge bonfires without any concern for how dangerous this may be. Visitors need to be cautioned about leaving a campfire burning.
Make sure they know they need to drown the fire and cover it with dirt before they leave the campsite. Let’s all of us be cognizant of the danger of fire and help out each other to be fire wise.
