National Women’s Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health (OWH) and sponsored in Payson by Payson Regional Medical Center. With the theme “It’s Your Time,” the nationwide initiative encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life.
Events planned include:
Saturday, May 9 at Green Valley Park: Free Walking for Good Health, starting at 8 a.m.; plus Karoomba/Zumba dance exercise with Kristy Walton.
Monday, May 11 at Green Valley Park: AARP Arizona Free Walking for Good Health, with free pedometers. This event starts at 9:30 a.m., and begins a 10-week walking program.
Tuesday, May 12: 1 to 3 p.m. at PRMC Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, there will be a free speakers forum with Dr. Amalia Pineres, Jeri Bryne and Holly Crump. RSVP to (928) 472-9290.
Wednesday, May 13: PRMC Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, there will be a Mother’s Day-themed tea from 2 to 4 p.m. with speakers Sharon Bowes of Chakra Botanika on the benefits of herbal teas; Merle Shewey, Home Depot’s gardening manager on growing herbs in Payson. There will be a “most unique teacup” contest, so be sure to bring yours, plus giveaways and raffles during event. Plant Fair Nursery is donating herbs for participants. Thursday, May 14: Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Hwy., will have free screenings for blood pressure, lipid panel and blood sugar level from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. RSVP to (928) 472-9290.
