Regarding the Democratic Headquarters sign on Highway 87, I believe there is a freedom of speech issue that should be addressed. I understand the Town of Payson considered it a campaign sign and ordered it removed.

Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Manager John Stanton made a low-key plea for town funding, despite bleak budget projections for 2009-10. The chamber had asked for $48,000 to underwrite the operation of a visitors center, but at last week’s budget study session, Stanton quickly accepted the same payment from the town as this year — $36,000.

Irene Neal competed in every Payson Loggers Sawdust Festival from 1980 until the event was discontinued after the 1993 event. Every one of those 13 years, she won the rolling pin throwing contest and still holds the record for the distance toss of 113 feet.
