The Payson Arizona Loggers Sawdust Festival is back in town, this Saturday and Sunday at the event center. Professional loggers and amateurs alike will descend upon Payson and compete for cash and prizes. The grand prize, the coveted “Logger of the Year,” will go to the logger with the most points at the end of the two-day event.

The house is full of bouncing babies. Puppy and kitten season is in full swing. Most of the kittens still need to gain some weight and get through their health checks before they reach the main house for adoption. We could use a few volunteers to be kitten Grandmas, or foster families. Small fries like these need extra special care to make it.

I thought I had put aside politics last Saturday when I took a little time out for some fun. Harry Shill, longtime resident of the Payson area and one of the last rodeo cowboys around, asked me to judge a bull riding contest. This was something I hadn’t done before, but I decided, what the heck? I’d give it a shot. Judging a bull ride would be like watching some old cowboy top off a couple of broncs so I told Harry, “Sure, count me in.”
