There was rain in the Village on Monday afternoon along with thunder and lightning. Actually, the “rain” was so slight it wasn’t even measurable.
According to the weather reports, there is a chance for more on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Let’s hope so, because April and part of May has been the driest it has been in over 10 years.
As you may know by now, Tonto National Forest has issued fire restrictions except in hosted campgrounds. Also, all burn permits have been suspended as of May 14. For general information on fire activity and restrictions in Arizona, call toll-free, 877-864-6985, or visit http://www.publiclands.org/firenews/AZ.php.
The fines for violating the restrictions are pretty steep. The fines can be up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to six months.
Hellsgate Fire Department
At the monthly meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board, on May 13 at station #22 in Tonto Village, board chairman Richard Pinkerton handed out certificates of completion of the one year probationary period to Breianon Miller, Bill Mennen, Bill Dupke and George Karrys. Congratulations to all of you.
As of May, there are 38 volunteer firemen in stations, 21, 22 and 23.
We are proud of all of the firefighters who are willing to take all the training, plus hold down other jobs and then be ready at a moment’s notice to go out on calls.
The Tonto Village Fireflies will be holding their annual Memorial Weekend breakfast at station #22 in Tonto Village.
The Fireflies will start serving at 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee for only $5.
There will also be chorizo burros for sale for $2. The address is 151 Mathews Lane, one mile on the Control Road off Highway 260.
There will be door prizes every half hour and there will also be a huge rummage sale in front of the fire station.
There will also be many homeowners who will have items for sale in their front yards, so make sure you take a tour through the Village, you may be able to find more good bargains.
Update on Darius
Darius Lorig, son of Sherry Lorig, came out of surgery this past week with flying colors.
He is a brave little boy, all of 7 years old, to go through what he has gone through. This past surgery two metal rods were inserted in his back.
