Reverse poker tourney keeps golfers busy

The Payson Men’s Golf Association is keeping local players busy.
The most recent competition was May 27 with a reverse poker game.
Taking top honors with a score of 103 was the team of Frank Szakal, Jim Dalgleish, Don Kisseberth and Bill McKenna. Second place, with a score of 115, went to the team of Bill Cain, Russ Morris, Phil Scott and Jack Gibbs. In third place, with a score of 116, was the team of Larry Smith, Roger Poole, Tom Dahl and Doug Bailey. Fourth-place honors, with a score of 117, went to the team of Troy Neal, Tony Mularski, Art Decker and Ed McFall.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Rick Korth on pin 2 at 14 feet, 5 inches; Jim McCutcheon on pin 5 with 8 feet, 2 inches, and pin 8 with 14 feet, 2 inches; John Calderwood on pin 14 with 8 feet; and Frank Szakal on pin 17 with 8 feet, 4-1/2 inches.
There was also recent play by PMGA members at Verde Santa Fe in Cottonwood. There, Van Bowman had third low net for D flight and Mike Curtis was closest-to-the-pin on 2 with 2 feet, 9 inches.
PWGA Memorial Tournament
The Payson Women’s Golf Association held a two-person best ball tournament for Memorial Day. First place went to the team of Susan Torrens and Kelli O’Neill; there was a tie for second place between the teams of Mary Jones and Jeannie Griffin and Laura Meyocks and Mary Cain; third place went to Karen Peterson and Claudia Bullard.
Honors for closest-to-the-pin were shared by Susan Torrens and Alesha Calderwood.
