First Friday Scarecrow Contest

Andy Towle/Roundup -

Get creative and have some fun with the second annual Scarecrow Contest sponsored by the Payson Main Street Merchants Guild.

What kind of scarecrow would you like to make? A fireman scarecrow; a scientist scarecrow; a chef scarecrow; or some other fanciful or frightening image stuffed with straw?

The Payson Main Street Merchants Guild is hosting the second annual Scarecrow Contest to benefit the Payson Area Food Drive.

Have fun creating a scarecrow for your family, business or non-profit organization. Then vote for your favorite!

Community voting will be held during First Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continue through Nov. 14.

For each non-perishable food item donated, one vote will be allowed and cash or checks are always welcome. Bring a canned or monetary donation to First Friday festivities Nov. 6 and vote for your favorite scarecrow until Saturday, Nov. 14 at participating Main Street merchants.

The top vote-getter will receive a gift certificate for a complete Thanksgiving dinner from Safeway.

There will be two additional prizes handed out for second- and third-place winners.

For contest rules and an entry form, visit the Web site:

Participating Main Street merchants will have food donation boxes in their stores until Thanksgiving.
