DPS receives multiple federal law enforcement grants

DPS recently received a half million worth of new equipment and money through federal grants.
New equipment includes a $50,000 global positioning satellite accident measuring system, two accident-measuring systems and software costing $31,680, 30 speed-detection devices costing $113,800, and 107 portable breath testing devices to enhance DUI enforcement costing $44,000.
DPS received an additional $156,000 for personnel services and overtime.
Money will be used for in-state DUI training courses and travel to DUI seminars; state accident investigation courses and travel to accident reconstruction courses; extra speed and traffic enforcement in metropolitan Phoenix; enhanced aviation speed enforcement throughout Arizona; increased traffic enforcement in Pinal County and extra DUI enforcement in the western metropolitan Phoenix area. The DPS thanked the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for facilitating the federal grants.
