This is in response to former Pine-Strawberry board member Jessica Barnett’s Nov. 6 guest commentary. The standard of coverage by the fire department members is not an issue here rather than holding our elected officials of the Pine-Strawberry Fire Board fiscally responsible.

Late Saturday night Speaker Nancy Pelosi brought her trillion dollar health care “reform” bill to a vote in the U.S. House — and it passed by a mere two votes. One of the “yes” votes for this harmful legislation was cast by our own Rep. Kirkpatrick. As a small-business owner, I couldn’t be more disappointed with her vote.

P/S Fire Board chairman responds to recent letters

Two letters were printed in the paper related to the vote to create the position of battalion chief at the Oct. 26 meeting. Three board members felt that this action was in the best interest of providing better emergency service to our residents. I was one of those three-to-two “yes” votes. Because of our dreaded property taxes, let’s first look at the cost. These positions will be filled by promoting personnel from within our own fire department.
