The Payson Elks 6th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be served on Thursday, Nov. 26, and will be open to the public. Seating will be at 12 noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Dinner is free, but donations are welcome. See or call the Elks Lodge Secretary at 474-2572 for your free tickets, or for delivery to the homebound. DJ Craig will provide the music again this year. The Lodge is located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

GED testing registration

Space is available for GED testing on Saturday, Nov. 21. Anyone wishing to take the test must pre-register at 719 S. Beeline Highway by Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The cost is $65, and tests are being administered at the Payson Education Center, 112 W. Cedar Lane.

AARP Tax-Aide needs volunteers

Payson AARP Tax-Aide needs volunteers for computer preparation of Form(s) 1040 for tax year 2009. Requirements are: knowledge of preparing a tax return and using a computer; commitment of four hours a week from Feb. 1 through April 15, 2010; and attendance at a training class (one week) starting Jan. 18, 2010 on both Federal and State tax returns.

Learns about ‘River Runners of the Grand Canyon’

The last speaker in the Arizona Humanities Council “Roads Scholar” series will be historian and naturalist Todd Weber of Prescott, presenting “River Runners of the Grand Canyon” at the Nov. 19 meeting.

Weber has led numerous river trips in the Grand Canyon, and is exceptionally well versed in the subject. He recounts the fascinating experiences of those who have been drawn to the wonders and adventures of the Colorado River as it weaves its way through the Grand Canyon. Weber uncovers the centuries of human history buried in the austere yet beautiful walls of the canyon.

Library Friends meetings are free of charge and open to all. They take place in the meeting room at the Library, 328 N. McLane Road. They begin at 10 a.m. with a brief business meeting, followed by the speaker’s presentation at 10:30. After the presentation, a potluck lunch is served. Holiday Craft and Bake Sale

The Women’s Ministries of Payson First Assembly of God, 1100 W. Lake Drive (the church at Green Valley Park), will hold their annual Holiday Craft and Bake Sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21.

The sale will feature a variety of delicious baked goods, handmade quilts, throws, baby blankets, crafts, holiday decorations and more.

The public is invited to come and do their holiday shopping early. Entry is from the upper level parking area. All proceeds go to missionaries and charities of the church.

Craft Extravaganza

A two-day Craft Extravaganza is planned at the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22. 

Items offered will include paintings, jewelry including crystals and gemstones, Native American pieces and bead work. There will be Christmas decorations, centerpieces, gourds, lamps, western signs, quilts, clothing, pottery, tole painting and more.

Music to shop by will be provided by DJ Craig.

Celebrate storytelling

Tickets are now available for the 10th annual Tellabration in Pine. The evening of storytelling is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21 at Pine Community Center Cultural Hall.

To make a date night, start with dinner at 5 p.m. at the Pine Senior Center followed by the show, which begins at 7 p.m. The cost for both dinner and show is $25. Tickets for the show only are just $5, but get there early for this popular event. Reserve tickets by calling (928) 476-2766 or (928) 476-3623, or pick them up at Sunny Mountain Realty in Pine. 

This year’s event is sponsored by the DPS Quilt Angels who will be unveiling two very special quilts — one honoring story tellers and one remembering loved ones who have experienced cancer. You may submit a name for remembrance at the Tellabration event or beforehand by calling Willene Smith at (928) 476-3587. Both the quilts will be permanently displayed in the Cultural Hall after the event.

All Tellabration proceeds will go to the Pine Senior Center.

Country music star tribute show Nov. 21

Payson Lions Charitable Foundations is bringing the Legends of Country Music to the Rim Country.

The “Helping One Another Concert Tour” will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Payson High School Auditorium. The concert pays tribute to more than 25 of country music’s greatest entertainers.

Admission is $20 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets are available from any member of the Payson Lions Club, or may be purchased at Payson Packaging, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Dan Goode Flooring or Vita Mart.

Community Thanksgiving worship service

Ponderosa Baptist Church will sponsor a Community Thanksgiving Worship Service from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Payson High School Auditorium, 301 S. McLane Road.

Dr. Joseph Falkner will lead the entire community in a worship service devoted to Thanksgiving. There will be a special program for children, and a free nursery.

Live music Sunday

Come listen to live music of late American composers performed by local and guest musicians starting at 6 p.m. Sunday at Payson Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St. Any donation goes to the church.
