November is kind of a somber month, a prelude to winter. November in Arizona is much different than November in my native Wisconsin where the skies are often gray and dreary, rather like pilgrims who seem to have been a cheerless lot. What would you expect though if you could dress only in black, white or gray? Wouldn’t it be depressing not to don that aquamarine sweater or dress your little girl in pink? Our world is filled with so much color — take time to enjoy those breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, the splendid rock formations, the blue of the Arizona sky. Color lifts the spirits as much as music and laughter.
Senior Circle
The Senior Circle and AARP are offering a Driver Safety Class from noon to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway. Pre-registration is required and may be made at the Circle office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by calling (928) 472-9290. There is a $14 workshop fee. Your insurance company may offer a discount for attendance.
Drop in at the Art Studio in the Senior Circle between 1 and 3 p.m. Thursday afternoons (excluding Thanksgiving). Marienea LaShomb is the art project leader and will instruct and assist artists and crafters with their projects.
The Senior Circle will be closed from Nov. 25 through Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Library Friends of Payson
LFOP is in need of someone to fill the volunteer position of secretary. Basic computer skills are needed to record board meeting minutes and for maintaining contact information for officers and members. Interested persons may contact Board President Alice Natale at (928) 474-2838.
There will be no LFOP meeting in December. The first meeting of 2010 is Thursday, Jan. 26.
Payson Senior Center & Thrift Store
Bill Spangler has retired and is no longer available to assist seniors with Medicare, Medicaid and health insurance questions and problems. Seniors may call 1-800-293-9393 for assistance.
The Senior Thrift Store, 512 W. Main St., now has its Christmas Shoppe open in the back yard behind the store. New Christmas merchandise is being put out daily at bargain prices.
The Senior Circle will be closed Nov. 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving. The Thrift Store will be closed Nov. 26, but will be open Nov. 27 and 28.
Christmas items are now on display for sale at the Pine-Strawberry Senior Center & Thrift Store, 3916 N. Highway 87 in Pine. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Happy Thanksgiving and may those vittles not go to our middles.
