The gift of jewelry is one of the most prized presents someone can get — or give. Jewelry given for Christmas keeps the holiday sparkle throughout the year. This year that sparkle is available in abundance at Overman Designs at 207 E. Highway 260 in Payson.
Chad and Melissa Overman have been working non-stop all year on their newest line of natural gemstones jewelry. This is not a fast process — every step of the design and manufacturing is all done by the hands of the 7th generation master craftsmen that have been working with them for years. The selection includes rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets. These special pieces are unbelievably priced from $75 to $350 — with surprise specials for anyone who stops in the day after Thanksgiving.
The Overmans can make these kinds of deals because they design and manufacture the jewelry and get the diamonds directly from their mine in Canada.
“We have a direct partnership with the Canadian diamond mine, so we are cutting out about five middlemen, which brings the price way down,” Melissa said.
“Everything we make is designed and manufactured in the U.S.,” Chad said.
“Jewelry is meant to be special, about the moment,” Melissa said. “Jewelry is not meant to be expensive, because it is a celebration of a moment.”
“We want pieces to be worn for three to five generations,” Chad said. So, he uses his engineering background to design delicate-looking pieces that are guaranteed for a lifetime.
Lucky shoppers can find pieces with amethysts, opals, garnets, smoky quartz, blue topaz, citrine, lemon quartz, iolite and more. The natural stones have an amazing intensity of color saturation, breathtaking in their dazzling settings. The Overmans use only the finest quality for all their designs. “We are offering these beautiful pieces at special prices as our way of saying thank you,” Melissa said.
“Thanks to Rim Country for our welcome and success — including all the word of mouth referrals — we consider them the hugest compliment,” Chad and Melissa said.
Diamonds are their specialty, with one-of-a-kind diamond designer pieces available at every size and price point. “We have special prices on every size of diamonds, from solitaires, stud earrings to tennis bracelets. We’re just that awesome,” Melissa said.
In fact, the Overmans have the largest selection of natural diamonds and gemstones in the Rim Country, and also selections of one of the world’s rarest stones — alexandrite.
“We exhibit at the largest jewelry shows and provide our neighbors and friends with the same prices,” the Overmans said.
The Overmans are able to provide the work at such a great price because they make every effort to obtain their materials as close to their original source as possible.
The Overmans also encourage their customers not only to come in and see their work, but also touch it and get a feel for wearing it.
“We want coming into the store to be an experience,” Chad said.
Meeting customers and sharing in their happy times is Melissa’s favorite part of being a jewelry designer.
The couple designs their own pieces and creates custom pieces based on what a customer wants.
If a customer wants a ring, for example, Chad — who graduated from the Gemological Institute of America as a gemologist — will design the piece on a computer as the customer describes it to him. The completed ring can be viewed from every angle using the rendering software, 3Design. Customers have the chance to see a piece before it is made.
After the ring is designed, it is manufactured in California. The company has five master craftsmen creating the one-of-a-kind piece.
“It is a forgotten art form,” Chad said.
The ring is then shipped back, ending a three-week process.
Melissa said their attention to detail and customer service is unmatched. Custom orders are being accepted through Dec. 1 for delivery in time for the the holidays.
If new jewelry isn’t on your gift list, maybe there is someone for whom you can have a piece of heirloom jewelry restyled, resized or repaired.
“What else can you enjoy for a lifetime and then pass down to the next generation as a priceless treasure?” Chad said.
