The FBI and Payson police officers are searching for one man who robbed the Compass Bank, at 613 S. Beeline Highway, at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m.
Payson Lt. Don Garvin said members of the FBI arrived in town later on Wednesday to take over the investigation.
He said a single man, armed with a handgun, walked into the bank around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and demanded money. The suspect was given some money, but Garvin would not disclose the amount.
Employees of the bank saw the man leave on foot. The robbery suspect was not seen entering any kind of vehicle, according to Garvin.
Garvin said he could not provide any additional information, and he could not provide a description of the man being sought in the robbery. No one was injured during the heist, he said.
Roundup records indicate this is the first bank robbery in Payson in more than 10 years. There have been several people arrested in Payson for robbing banks elsewhere. The last bank robbery detailed in Roundup archives was in Pine in 1997.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
