Free landfill day for appliances

The Buckhead Mesa Landfill will hold an old appliance free day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10.

This will include refrigerators, freezers, washers, dishwashers, dryers, portable trash compactors and water heaters. Other metal items will also be accepted, say officials from the Gila County Public Works division.

The landfill fee for the weight of all appliances and the freon from the refrigerators and freezers will be waived by Gila County. As  the county will handle the freon  removal from the appliances, please do not tamper with the freon lines and no trash of any kind in the appliances.

All other debris will be regular price, so leave yourself easy access to remove these metal items and appliances so landfill personnel can exclude the weight from any other trash that you may bring to the landfill to dispose of. For more information, call the landfill at (928) 476-3350.

Payson Police seeking volunteers

If you have been looking for a way to volunteer with the community but do not know if you want to be a police volunteer, the Payson Police Department invites you take a tour or ride with a volunteer.

“If you think you might have an interest in the Volunteer In Policing Program, this is one way you can check us out,” a release states. “You can schedule a ride-along with one of the volunteers and see if that’s something you would like to be a part of.”

If you want to stay inside, you can learn more about administration through a tour.

“We need people to do patrol work as well as in records and reception, most any skills you may have we can put to good use.”

All training and uniforms are supplied free. Call (928) 474-5242 ext. 209 and Kim Becker will arrange for a ride with a patrol officer or to visit the department.
