Pending favorable weather, the U.S. Forest Service is planning several prescribed fires in Northern Arizona for the week.
On Tuesday, the Mogollon Rim District plans to burn 570 acres near the Mogollon Rim Blue Ridge Ranger Station. About 500 acres is maintenance burn, which means it has previously burned, fuels are light, and smoke will be light.
The other 70 acres has not been thinned and will produce more smoke. Please use caution while driving on Highway 87, as the smoke could get heavy, especially in the evening and early morning hours.
Next week, the Forest Service plans to continue burns near Mogollon Rim Ranger Station and Blue Ridge and 500 acres along the Mogollon Rim near Knoll Lake.
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
