Members of the Payson Men’s Golf Association turned to a PC to comprise teams for the annual Black and White Team Tournament.
“The computer divided us up pretty evenly,” said PMGA member Herb Sherman.
In the Oct. 7 fray, the White team won top honors edging the Black 11-10.
The unusual format involved playing “alternate shot” on holes 1 to 6, “best ball” on 7 to 12 and “scramble” on 13 to 18.
In the closest-to-the-pin contests, Steve Vincent and Terry Lindsey made a very rare tie on No. 17, both hitting to within 4 feet, 8 inches of the flag.
Sherman deadpanned the dead knot as the “height of veracity.”
Other winners were Troy Neal (No. 2; 4 feet, 11-1/2 inches), Tom Dahl (No.5; 8 feet, 5 inches), Ed Flores (No. 8; 4 feet, 10 inches) and Roger Poole (No. 14; 7 feet, 4-1/2 inches).
With the 2009 season winding down, PMGA members will return to Payson Golf Course tomorrow, Oct. 14, in a “Turkey Shoot.”
In it, golfers will battle for the prize of a Thanksgiving turkey.
On Oct. 21, Payson hosts Prescott Country Club in a Jamboree Low Net tournament.
The season wraps up Nov. 4 with a second and final Turkey Shoot.
