The Payson Supply Line project, which sends comfort items from home to men and women in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, will benefit from a special event being held by Rim Country Health and Retirement, along with Granny’s Attic and the 260 Café from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17 at Granny’s Attic on East Highway 260. Items from more than 40 area businesses will be raffled to benefit this grassroots program that provides a special service to our military personnel in war zones.

Oct. 16 Friday

Z-Coil Shoes are back

Come see the new Z-Coil shoes on sale Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 in the main lobby of the Payson Regional Medical Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Styles include sneakers, boots, clogs and much more.

Proceeds from the sale will go to support the many programs and scholarships offered by the Mogollon Health Alliance Auxiliary. For more information, call MHA at (928) 472-2588.

Benefit barbecue dinner

A $5 per plate barbecue beef dinner will be sold from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16 outside the Payson Longhorn stadium before the game with Blue Ridge.

The funds from the dinner, which features barbecue beef, potato salad, chips and a choice of soda or water, will benefit the Payson High yearbook, the student government and drama club.

The Friends And Neighbors (FAN) Club is assisting the student groups with the dinner. Tickets will be sold at the gate or may be purchased in advance. To make an advance purchase, call (928) 978-2291.

Brush Pit schedule

The Regional Payson Area Project for a Fire Wise Rim Country will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Oct. 17 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., it is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Oct. 18, the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., it is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

The free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted. No household garbage, construction debris, or other items will be accepted.

Motorcycle ride

The Payson Riders of the Purple Sage invite motorcycle enthusiasts to join members for a Saturday, Oct. 17 ride to Cornville for lunch and beyond.

The gorgeous, fall colors are already here atop the Rim, where there will be a stop for a break. Then, a comfort and coffee stop entering the outskirts of Camp Verde.  The route will then cross I-17 to Cottonwood, go north on 89A to Cornville Road and then stop at the Manzanita Inn in Cornville for burgers to more adventurous fare, plus wow-desserts. The group will then go up the windy Page Springs Road, passing several wineries and then reconnect to 89A, where riders can go north to Sedona or south back to Cottonwood and home or on up to Jerome.

The group will meet at the Payson United Methodist Church, 414 Easy Street (behind Ace Hardware) at 9:15 a.m. For more information, visit the Web site www.motorcycleridersofthepurplesage.com.

Supply Line benefit

Items from more than 40 area businesses will be raffled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct., 17 in front of Granny’s Attic.

Recycle electronic products

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials announced that an electronics waste recycling event is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Town of Payson Multi-Event Center, 1400 S. Beeline Highway.

Unwanted televisions, computers, monitors, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCRs, CD and DVD players, printers, small appliances, fax machines, cables and cords will be accepted during the event.

Gracie Lee Haught foundation benefit costume party

If a pirate’s life’s for you, then there’s a party bounding over October’s waves headed your way.

The annual Gracie Lee Haught Children’s Memorial Fund Costume Party is Oct. 17 with the theme of Pirates and Bounty of the Sea. Doors open at 6 p.m., Saturday at the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino. Admission is only $20 per person.

Come in costume and you have a chance to win a treasure chest of bounty. There will be lots of other prizes, games, music, food and fun, promises Jan Parsons, chief operations officer for GLH Children’s Memorial Fund.

Oct. 18 Sunday

Free Southern Gospel music concert Sunday

The Lannings, a Southern Gospel trio from Phoenix, will be singing at the First Southern Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18.

The Lannings sing nationally and also minister to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. First Southern Baptist Church is located at the corner of Bonita Street and Colcord Road. A love offering will be received.

Estate planning program

The Payson Senior Circle will have a program on estate planning and how to avoid probate by Rilus Dana, J.D. of the Dana Law Firm from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 19. The Senior Circle is at 215 N. Beeline Highway. Reserve a spot by calling (928) 472-9290.

Fashion show at Elks

The Payson Elks Lodge HOPES will host a Like-New Fashions Style Show luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 20. Like-new items will be available to purchase. The luncheon will feature chef salad.

Tickets are $12 if purchased in advance, or $15 at the door, if available. Tickets are available at Payson Elks Lodge or by calling Mary Smith, (928) 468-8766.
