The American Red Cross will hold a wilderness first aid certification course Nov. 7-8 in Payson from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The sessions will be in the Payson Police Department meeting room.
This comprehensive two-day course is designed to teach participants and outdoor enthusiasts the skills needed to survive in an emergency medical situation until help is available, such as mountaineering, first aid administration in the wilderness, help signals, and dealing with weather conditions.
Upon successful completion of the 16-hour, two-day class, including a written test and skill segments, participants will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification, valid for three years.
Prerequisites for the course say a CPR certification is not required, although it is highly recommended, and current knowledge of skills will be assumed.
Participants must be at least 15 years old by the second day of class. Register now through Friday, Oct. 30. The fee is $125 and space is limited. For more information, call Payson Parks and Recreation at (928) 474-5242, ext. 7.
