Camp Was A Great Success

When Joe Harris of the parks and rec department approached me about joining forces to host a junior volleyball camp, I responded, “Sounds great.” When he stated that he felt he could get 30 kids to sign up, I responded, “Really?” but was actually thinking, “Yeah, right.” I had run junior camps before, and had anywhere from nine to 15 kids sign up.

So imagine my surprise when 66 kids registered! The gym was so full of young athletes, it was all I could do to not get claustrophobic! But the camp ended up being quite a success. Next year I vow to run the camp in two gyms. And next year I vow not to underestimate Joe Harris.

A big nod of recognition also goes out to Mikey Halenar, Kristi Ford, Eileen Daniels, Tim Dougherty, and the other good folks at the FAN Club for running our annual steak fry. Their hard work enabled me to focus on coaching my team for the alumni tournament.

And whatever it is that they marinate the steaks in overnight — holy cow (no pun intended), it just makes the steak melt in your mouth!

It’s partnerships like these that enable us to better build up our young people, and to help them attain greater athletic success. Thank you so much for your dedication to our youth.
