Can you feel it? The wind is whispering in the pines, “Fall is coming. Fall is coming.” The mornings are brisk now and the day warms up really fast but then cools down again as soon as the sun lowers in the western sky.
Fall is my favorite time of year because of all the colors that we see in the Village. The trees and shrubs put on their best show in September. There is one tree, I think is a type of maple, that almost glows with golden leaves just across the road from our house.
Welcome to the fall!
The big Labor Day weekend is this weekend with all the fun and food starting on Saturday morning at the fire station at 11 a.m.
There are so many activities going on a person could stay all day in the Village and have many things to see and do. I have mentioned the activities in previous columns, so listen to the radio for all the details or read one of the many fliers the auxiliary has distributed throughout the community.
But don’t forget to leave something for the rummage sale or baked items at the fire station or at Janet’s house on 424 W. Johnson Blvd. on Friday or Saturday morning. You can call Janet at 478-9935, or the fire station at 478-0405 if you have any questions.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The monthly meeting for the fire board will be Sept. 9 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Star Valley station #21. Be sure to attend this public meeting. The fire board is always open to suggestions and questions.
Chief Hatch will give a report on the Water Wheel Fire.
Birthdays and anniversaries
Karen Fausz of Thompson Draw I starts the month of September off on the very first day. Karen works the elections board every two years or so and is an avid NASCAR fan.
Charlie Terry has his birthday Sept. 10. Charlie has been a part of Tonto Village for many years and is known for his welding skills. Charlie will light 82 candles on his birthday cake. Marge Tolby of Tonto Village III will add another candle on Sept. 12.
Happy birthday to Karen, Charlie and Marge. Here’s hoping happy dreams and magical moments surround you on your special day.
There are two anniversaries this week. Pastor Roger Pike and his wife Joyce of Bear Flat will celebrate 41 years of marriage on Sept. 7.
On Sept. 9, Pat and Dick Watson of Tonto Village I will celebrate 54 years of marriage.
May every tomorrow be twice as sunny and sweet as all the days that have passed. Happy anniversary to both couples.
Tonto Village Chapel
Just a reminder that Bible study is now on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. There are separate classes for men and women. The groups are studying Proverbs.
The chapel can’t be missed, it is on 711 W. Haught Avenue. You can reach Pastor Barker at (928) 478-5070.
The Divas are still getting together on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. at the fire station in Tonto Village. There is plenty of room for your car in the back parking lot. There were so many of the gals that they needed two tables last week. This is a great time for the gals in the neighborhood to get together and “vent” as well as have a fun afternoon.
Double D doings
The response to having Lynda St. John play at the D was so good that Lynda will return on Friday, Sept. 4. Lynda will start playing about 7 p.m. and play until about 10 p.m.
Go and hear the great country music on Friday night.
The pool tournaments went as scheduled on Tuesday evening with the nine-ball tournament. Linda Stailey shot for first place and won, followed by Bobbie Davis and Nanci Olson for second and third places.
The Sunday eight-ball tournament got under way about 3 p.m. Stu shot for first place (sorry, didn’t get a full name) followed by Betty Koutz and Harvey Poyner. Congratulations to all the winners.
