Regarding the Water Wheel Fire — We have left our cabin in Rim Trail a few times to find abandoned campfires still smoldering at camping areas along East Verde River, and have put them out. We’ve contacted the Whispering Pines Fire Department to notify them, only to be told it was not their jurisdiction.
If we can’t educate the idiots to put out their own campfires, how can the Forest Service help to protect our homes back in the woods? Is there a way to get the vehicle license plate numbers of those camping in these places to hold them accountable if they don’t put out their campfires or clean up their messes? Everything costs money, but so does a destroyed forest, not to mention our homes and lives.
