Jazz pianist Lew Turano will be featured at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Payson Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St.
Turano is a Connecticut resident who performs in the East each summer, but resides in Northern Arizona in the winter. Joining him to form a quartet will be an upright string bassist, guitarist and drummer. “Surprise” guest vocalists are also scheduled to sing with Turano — he is is an excellent vocal accompanist, as well as a swinging mainstream jazz instrumental soloist.
For eight years the Community Presbyterian Church has opened its doors to offer live jazz music one Sunday afternoon each month to Rim Country residents and visitors. World-class and local musicians alike have performed, many expressing their appreciation for having the chance to perform before a receptive audience in the intimate, acoustically sound room provided by the church. Some have said the church is the birthplace of jazz in Payson.
Performances are co-sponsored by the Payson Friends of Jazz. Everyone is welcome, and a donation of $5 or more may be made at the door.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
