The Payson Women’s Golf Association competed for several years in the Northeastern Team Play, but due to lack of interest, stopped attending.
Recently however, the women have resumed competition in Northeastern Team Play.
Teams are selected on players with the lowest (best) handicaps, explains Claudia Bullard.
This year, Karen Peterson captained the team to victory. Playing for Payson were Peterson, Susan Torrens, Shari Cody, Lois Judd and Mary Cain.
The play for each competition is “four-person best ball,” Bullard said.
Trophies are awarded for low gross and low net. The Payson team won low gross this season.
Former members have said it is the first time Payson women have ever won. “Our women’s group is proud of how they represented our town,” Bullard said
