Why do you teach? I want to inspire as many students as possible! I love what I do and I want to share my passion with others. I want to teach them as much as possible and sometimes I even learn a thing or two from them.

Personal motto / words of wisdom: “Life is like a recipe, either you go by the book or alter it to one’s taste!”

Family: Have a wiener dog named “Nathan.”

Pet peeve: When students just cook without thought! Food is not something you hurry up and make. You have to put lovin’ in it!

Favorite hobby or leisure activity: I love to travel, watch food history shows, do karaoke and play my Nintendo DS!

Person in history you’d most like to meet and why: Abraham Lincoln and Julia Child.

Why did you decide to assist a student from Payson? Brett attended the Studio 101 camp this past summer and he was looking for a mentor. I decided why not?

He was a great kid with a lot of passion.

In school, who was your favorite teacher and why? Mrs. Carriker — She was my culinary arts teacher in H.S. She exposed me to the whole world of cooking. When I was in her class, the light bulb turned on and I realized that I wanted to be a chef! I didn’t choose to be a chef, it chose me!

What was your favorite subject in school and why? I really liked psychology. It’s really amazing how we all have the same “shell” but we are all so different.

What was your favorite year in school and why? I loved my senior year. I took my culinary arts class for four of the seven classes each day. Then I won a culinary scholarship, hopefully like Brett, and that was the icing on the cake.

Personal motto / words of wisdom: Expect the best, prepare for the worst and capitalize on what occurs.

Family: One son, 21 years old.

Pet peeve: People who do not pay attention to the activity they are involved in.

Favorite hobby or leisure activity: Riding my Harley in the mountains.

Person in history you’d most like to meet and why? Ferdinand Point, chef owner of Le Pyramide in France. Considered to be the founder of the principals of nouvelle cuisine. To meet and be able to pick the brain of one of the greatest chefs of the 20th century would be great.

Why did you decide to assist a student from Payson? Because they are the school closest to our school.

In school, who was your favorite teacher and why? Diana Klug because she inspired us to be our best.

What was your favorite subject in school and why? Music because of the creativity and also has helped in my career when planning out menus.

What was your favorite year in school and why? Senior year because we were getting ready to take on the world.
