AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service is looking for volunteers to be local site greeters, tax preparers and/or to take on leadership positions. In 2009, between Feb. 1 and April 15, more than 90 sites in Arizona provided assistance to more than 44,000 taxpayers.
Leadership positions are also available. Leaders coordinate program delivery at local sites and manage specific program activities such as technology, training, administration or communication at the state or regional level. Although tax training and certification is encouraged, it is not required for many leadership positions. Volunteers are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. “This year, we are particularly in need of Hispanic translators at our local sites,” said Diane Pearson, AARP Arizona Tax-Aide state coordinator.
