The Battle of Payson, Arizona, a Civil War re-enactment, will take place from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 10 at Green Valley Park. More than 150 costumed actors bring to life a Civil War battle in a free living history event. Games, activities, food and vendors will also be on hand.

First Friday events Spring Fling

The Senior Thrift Store, 512 W. Main St., will have a Spring Fling for First Friday festivities, April 2. The thrift store will be open until 8 p.m. Wayne Todd will provide live musical entertainment; there will be special Easter refreshments, door prizes and more from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gallery anniversary

Down the Street Art Gallery is having a party to celebrate its fourth anniversary this First Friday, April 2.

To coincide with the Easter-themed anniversary party, the gallery will be selling “eggs” for $2 each or $5 for 3. Enclosed in the plastic eggs are many goodies, ranging from free artwork, gourds, candy, stuffed bunnies and toys to jewelry and gems. There is something in each egg. The funds raised will go to one of the gallery members’ selected charities. Stop by the gallery at 703 W. Main St. to preview the many things not yet in their eggs, and then join the celebration from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 2 for cake and eggs.

Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art

To celebrate First Friday April 2, Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art will have a chance to fill Easter baskets with See’s Candy, Ty’s Bunnies, Boyd’s Hares, teacups and saucers, help the Humane Society, enjoy refreshments and the music of Cindy & Lupe. Festivities will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 2. Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art is at 520 W. Main St.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project for a Fire Wise Rim Country will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations:

Saturday, April 3, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. The Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, April 4, the Pine Pit will be closed due to excessively muddy conditions from recent storms. The Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

Real estate courses

Gila Community College is offering Real Estate license renewal courses starting Saturday, April 3 and continuing through Saturday, April 24. The classes will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The topics are as follows: April 3, broker audit and commission rules (morning), fair housing (afternoon); April 10, basic exchange tax (morning), advanced exchange tax (afternoon); April 17, agency (morning), disclosure (afternoon); April 24, contract law (morning), beneficiary deeds (afternoon).

The cost is $20 per class in advance, or $25 per class on the day of instruction.

Theses courses satisfy the Arizona Department of Real Estate’s requirements for continuing education hours for all sale and broker licenses.

Fool’s Day Fun

The Community Prevention Council’s Fool’s Day Fun community event is April 3.

The Community Prevention Council is co-sponsoring the event to bring awareness to the problem of underage drinking from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 3 at the Payson High School gymnasium, 301 S. McLane Road. Admission is free.

Festivities will include games, contests and prizes. There will be free food, giveaways, face painting booths and other activities throughout the afternoon.
