Tribal Vice Chairman Dies

David "Kenny" Davis

The Tonto Apache Tribe’s longest serving board member died early Tuesday morning from apparent natural causes.

David “Kenny” Davis, 47, served on the Tribal Council on and off since he was 18 years old and most recently served as vice chairperson, said Jerry Holland, tribal controller.

Davis’s wife Sophie reportedly found Davis unresponsive in their home around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A cause of death has not been released.

Holland said the whole tribe is devastated by the loss.

“He was one of the most liked people on the reservation,” Holland said. “He had a kind heart and good personality. He was a very fair man.”

“This has taken us all by surprise,” Holland added.

Davis is survived by his wife Sophie, daughters Michelle and Shawna Davis, son Ty Davis and father Wally Davis Sr.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 18 in the Tonto Apache Gymnasium.
