Musical prodigy Rudolf Budginas brings his ingenious show “You, Me & the Piano” to the Rim Country at 7 p.m., Monday, April 19 at the Payson High School auditorium. In the Tonto Community Concert Association program, Budginas illustrates how classical music has influenced contemporary artists by actually breaking down how Billy Joel might have drawn on Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody to get Piano Man.

The Payson Masonic Lodge is having a Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17. The lodge is at 200 E. Rancho Road.

Flyfishing 101 is canceled

The Payson parks department’s Flyfishing 101 class, scheduled for Saturday, April 17, has been canceled.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project … for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

• On Saturday, April 17, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

• On Sunday, April 18, the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pine Pit is located 0.7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

Free greenwaste disposal

The Gila County Board of Supervisors are pleased to announce in honor of Earth Day the Buckhead Mesa Landfill will accept greenwaste at no charge on Saturday, April 17 to encourage residents to clear their property of weeds and brush in preparation of wildfire season. Greenwaste includes trees, brush, pine needles and leaves.

PETCO Adoption Day and bake sale at HSCAZ

The Humane Society of Central Arizona will once again host a PETCO Adoption Day Saturday, April 17 at the shelter at 812 S. McLane Road. With every cat or dog that goes to a new home this Saturday, PETCO will give adopters a coupon book worth 50 percent off on cat or dog food, and 10 percent off an entire purchase at any of their locations.

There will also be a bake sale — staff and volunteers plan to prepare an assortment of cookies, breads and cakes to satisfy any sweet tooth!

Visit the shelter on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed from 11:30 to 1 for lunch) to see the beautiful cats and dogs available for adoption.

SonShine Club open house

The SonShine Club, a nonprofit child care program, is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday April 17. Come tour our facility, meet the teachers and join us for a free picnic lunch. We are located at 414 N Easy St. Call for more information, 474-5437.

Low-cost rabies vaccinations

A low-cost rabies vaccination clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 17 at Main Street Animal Clinic, 411 W. Main St.

Rabies vaccinations are just $10. Other vaccinations are available upon request. Your pet is required to be secured at all times.

Licensing fees for all dogs are as follows:

• Town of Payson: $7 spayed/neutered, $20 unaltered

• Town of Star Valley: $5 spayed/neutered, $7 unaltered

• Gila County: $7 spayed/neutered, $15 unaltered.

Board Game Day at library

Bring the family for some board game fun at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 17.

Real estate courses

Gila Community College is offering real estate license renewal courses on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The topics are as follows: April 17, agency (morning), disclosure (afternoon); April 24, contract law (morning), beneficiary deeds (afternoon).

The cost is $20 per class in advance, or $25 per class on the day of instruction.

These courses satisfy the Arizona Department of Real Estate’s requirements for continuing education hours for all sale and broker licenses.

Ordination of Carol Reed

Mount Cross Lutheran Church announces the ordination of Carol Reed, a resident of Strawberry, who will be the new pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Holbrook.

The ordination will be performed by Bishop Steve Talmage, Bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod, ELCA at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 17 at Mount Cross, 601 E. Highway 260. Assisting in the ceremony will be Pastor Elaine Watskey, assistant to the bishop and former pastor of Mount Cross and others.

On April 18, Ms. Reed will be installed in her new church in Holbrook at 10 a.m. by Bishop Talmage.

Dinner theater benefit

The Payson Community Kids program is benefiting from a dinner theater program this weekend. The show will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 17 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Hwy. 260, Payson. The proceeds will go toward the Payson Community Kids Building Fund.
