I am writing this letter to the Payson Unified School Board. As a parent and former Tonto Basin School Board member, which I served for six years, I was very happy to know that our community passed the special bond election.
We were promised it would save jobs and save our children’s extracurricular activities and sports programs.
I now see a possibility of pay to play sports, maybe as much as $200. Where does that leave a student that sports is all they have and are raised by a single parent?
Our sports program will only be for the rich kids in town. What a shock it was to hear about 17 employment cuts, including administration cuts. Education is important or the community would not have passed the special bond. I hope that every voter will remember this come election time. I know I will.
