Like so many Americans, Vonda Lux found herself without a job when the company she worked for downsized and closed up shop.
Instead of waiting around for an unemployment check and thumbing through the help wanted section of the newspaper, Lux decided to open up her own business.
In November, Lux opened DeLux Creations, a one-stop shop for the perfect hot dog, pulled pork sandwich or lunchtime snack.
Lux originally opened DeLux in the parking lot of the former Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company, where Lux had worked for years before the company pulled out of Payson.
In February, Lux decided to move her food stand to Star Valley permanently. Now Monday through Saturday you can find Lux in the parking lot of Kelly’s Bar selling tasty lunchtime fare.
Lux said her husband originally gave her the idea to open her own stand after she lost her job.
“My husband thought it would be something good for me to do, he knows I love to talk,” she said.
So far, meeting customers has been the highlight of the job.
“I like talking with everyone, so I plan to keep it going,” she said.
Her favorite hot dog to make and eat is the classic Chicago dog, with dill pickle chips, cucumber, bell pepper, onion, mustard, relish, tomato, pepperoncini and a dash of celery salt.
Other unique dogs include the Big Easy dog and the Hotlanta, which has coleslaw, chili, mustard, ketchup, onion and celery salt.
DeLux creations also sells nachos, pretzels, burritos, sandwiches and drinks.
