The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is pleased to announce the Town of Payson, Arizona has received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.
The award for the fiscal year 2009/10 budget marked the 12th consecutive year the Town has earned this recognition.
The award represents a significant achievement by the Town. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to achieve the award, the entity has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
• a policy document
• a financial plan
• an operations guide
• a communications device
“Wise and responsible fiscal decisions are crucial every day in municipal government, but the leadership of our town manager, finance team and all other departments is critical to maintaining city services during an economic downturn. I am extremely proud of the great team of professionals in our town government for their excellent job, particularly in the present condition of our economic challenges. The award is a testimony of their hard work and dedication to the residents of Payson,” said Chief Fiscal Officer Cindy Smith.
The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
For budgets, including fiscal period 2009, 1,214 entities received the award. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
