The towering ponderosa pines of the Mogollon Rim will be the backdrop for an afternoon of music, tastings and merriment to benefit the Humane Society of Central Arizona.
The “Country Wine, Jazz, Cheese and Chocolate Festival” is being hosted by La Cienega Ranch off Control Road east of Payson.
The afternoon festivities include a wine tasting hosted by Mark Lyon, winemaker for Sebastiani Vineyards, along with samplings of local and imported cheeses, varietal grapes, artisan breads, and chocolate galore, as well as a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.
Award-winning jazz vocalist Sherry Petta will enchant and entertain with vocals, keyboards and very special guest, her rescued terrier, Boo.
She will be accompanied by a star in his own right, Tony Vacca on sax and flute, the highly sought after John Willis on bass and Rim Country’s own very talented Gerry Reynolds on drums.
Petta was named 2008 Jazz Artist of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards and Jazz Performer of the Year at the Phoenix Music Awards.
She is a lover of animals and a wonderful ambassador for animal rescue.
In addition to the gastronomic delights, wine and cool jazz, guests are invited to hike or stroll the 80-acre ranch, visit with the animal residents, play “hit and giggle” bocce ball, enjoy a carriage ride, play horseshoes, or simply breathe deeply and relax.
To further raise funds for the animals of the Humane Society of Central Arizona, a raffle will be held for round trip airfare to Oakland and a three-night stay with spa treatments at the Kenwood Inn and Spa in Sonoma, Calif. The Inn received the Conde Nast Travelers Reader’s Choice Award 2009 for Top Small Resort U.S.
Tickets to the festival are being pre-sold through the board of directors and individual ticket captains and are $100 per individual or $175 per couple.
To purchase tickets, call board president Bill Enlund at (928) 474-6103 or (928) 970-0011. All proceeds will benefit the animals served by the Humane Society of Central Arizona, a nonprofit organization.
