A woman who police say helped three men escape from a Kingman prison Friday has local ties to Jakes Corner.

Casslyn Welch, 44, reportedly worked at Jakes Corner Store and was seen working at the store Thursday night, a day before police say she helped Tracy Alan Province, 42, and John Charles McCluskey, 45, hijack an 18-wheeler and two drivers outside of Kingman.

One woman who lives in a trailer park behind Jakes Corner Store, who did not want to be identified, said she regularly sees Welch working at the location since her mother owns the small convenience store off Highway 188.

The Roundup attempted to call the store, but a woman working there said they had no comment.

According to police, at 9:45 p.m. Friday, McCluskey, Province and Daniel Kelly Renwick, 36, escaped from the Arizona State Prison in Golden Valley by cutting a hole in the prison’s fence.

The men then hijacked two drivers at gunpoint and fled to Flagstaff. At 5 a.m., the two truck drivers were released uninjured.

Residents who live at the trailer park at Jakes Corner said the area was infiltrated with officers and a helicopter Saturday night.

Gila County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Scott said he had no comment since it is an Arizona Department of Corrections case.

“We received information that (Welch, McCluskey and Province) might be heading this way, but we have not had any contact with them,” Scott said.

On Sunday, Renwick, who had been serving a 22-year sentence for second-degree murder, was spotted in Rifle, Colo. by an officer. After a chase and shootout, Renwick was apprehended and booked into the Garfield County Jail. No one was injured.

Police say Welch, McCluskey and Province remain on the run in Arizona. Welch is believed to be McCluskey’s fiancee.

Welch was last seen at the prison driving a 1996 Chrysler Concord blue sedan. The vehicle has not been located.
