A large crowd formed this week at the Zane Grey Clubhouse and the High Country Jammers performed. The clubhouse hosts this event, which is open to the public, every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
With the recent thunderstorms increasing in coverage and intensity, rains came and caused some minor flooding in ravines and canyons.
Some areas had aggressive downpours creating runoff and ground erosion encroachment onto some roads. Lightning has also been lighting up the skies on some evenings with impressive cloud lighting displays. Signs at the Black Canyon crossing road in Heber proper indicating “Do Not Cross When Flooded” are positioned at both sides of the Black Canyon riverbed to notify drivers of the possible danger.
Navajo County Public Works has been retrenching ditches and rebuilding the shoulders of Buckskin Canyon Road and many other county-maintained roads in our community to help mitigate the runoff.
The Heber-Overgaard Fire Department is currently in the process of selecting a new fire chief. The decision is expected this week by the Heber-Overgaard Fire District Board.
Pinecrest Lake and RV Resort is hosting an arts and crafts sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 21. They will have unique crafts, one-of-a-kind gifts and fine art. Lunch will be available for $3.50 and they will serve a braut sandwich with sauerkraut, chips and beverages.
A new fabric store has arrived in Heber-Overgaard. It is located in the Bison Town Shops. It is called Nana’s by the Yard. They will be having their grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 14. They are located next to Twinnie’s Coffee Shop. Many residents will be pleased for this new convenience since residents have had to drive a distance to shop for fabric.
