Payson transportation plan meeting at library

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will hold a public open house on the Payson Transportation Planning Study from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road.

The meeting will allow citizens and other stakeholders to voice their concerns and ideas regarding the transportation issues facing the town of Payson.

Vendors wanted

Vendors are invited to participate in the Community Presbyterian Church’s Community Flea Market from 7 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 14.

The Community Flea Market will be at 800 W. Main St. A 10-foot-by-19 foot space rents for just $10, and the renter keeps the proceeds.

Participants may bring 10-foot-by-10-foot awnings and they should bring their own tables and chairs. Anything legal may be sold.

Turn & Burn Series

Tuesdays through Sept. 28 the 2010 Turn & Burn Series is at the Payson Event Center. Books open at 4:30 p.m. and competition starts at 6 p.m. The cost is $8 per event. For more information, contact Kaprice Bachtell at (928) 474-5242, ext. 359.

This event is family fun and recreation provided by Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

PSWID meeting

The Pine Strawberry Water Improvement Districe will have a meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the Seniors Dining Room at the Pine Community Center.

The board will be electing a new chairman to fill the post vacated when Bill Haney resigned.

Tonto Apache Tribal Enterprises and its employees are hosting another Fry Bread for Families event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11 in the southwest corner of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. Get authentic Apache fry bread with a choice of toppings and a drink for just $5 and help those in need in the Payson area.

The Pine Strawberry Celebrate School Night is at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the school gym. There will be a free spaghetti dinner — first come first served — and will last until 6:15 p.m. or until the food runs out. A program will follow dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Community Breakfast

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church is hosting a Community Breakfast at 8 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13 at 507 W. Wade, Payson.

Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, coffee and juice.

Rim Country residents and visitors are invited for food and fellowship. A free will offering will be accepted. The church will host a breakfast on the second Friday of every month at 8 a.m.

GED tests

GED testing has been scheduled in Payson: Aug. 14, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. Candidates must pre-register at 719 S. Beeline Highway, Payson. Office hours are 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday. Call (928) 472-5373 for more information.

Several options for GED preparation are available in Payson:

Falconers gathering

The AZ Falconers Association will have a two-day event in Payson Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15.

Activities planned include: education on the ancient art of falconry; a talk on what it takes to be a falconer in this day and age; a BB gun shooting contest; an apprentice/pre-apprentice workshop; an equipment-making workshop; a hawk coping demonstration; and a hood-making workshop.

The location of the gathering is the Oxbow Saloon, 607 W. Main St., Payson.

Quilt auction

The Strawberry Patchers and the Pine/Strawberry Archaeological & Historical Society second annual A Beautiful Quilt Auction is Aug. 14 in the Cultural Hall of the Community Center in Pine.

The auction event is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the live auction at 5:30 p.m. Register and preview the quilts for auction during the day and see the Vendor Mall, Opportunity Quilts, Buy It Now Quilt Sales and demonstrations

Monies collected go to local charities in Pine and Payson.

Blood donors may win a VW

The Payson Elks Summer Community blood drive is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14 the Elks Lodge, 1206 N Beeline Highway.

Authors visit

East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto St., Ste 102, Payson, will host author Nancy Lee Burns from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14. Burns will read and sign copies of her book, “Retirement: Sacred or Scared.”

A second author, Mitzi Boles, will be hosted for a reading and book signing from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15. Boles will read and sign copies of her book, “Mom, I Found a Bunny!” 

Parade entries sought

The August Doin’s Rodeo Parade, Ropin’ and Ridin’, will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 on Historic Main Street in Payson. The parade is sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and APS.

For parade applications, please stop by the chamber office at the corner of Highway 87 and West Main, or go online to www. rimcountrychamber.com. Applications are due by Aug. 14.
