Bookstore clearance

The Library Friends of Payson Bookstore will have an End-of-Summer Clearance of hardback books through August. The books will be on sale at two for the price of one. 

For the sake of our environment, the Payson Public Library and the Library Friends of Payson Bookstore will no longer offer plastic grocery bags for carrying books. However, sturdy recycled tote bags with the library logo are available for $1.50.

PATS Hike

Hike Houston Trail to Flat Rock, an easy to moderate two-mile route, with a group at 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21. Meet at the Houston Mesa Trailhead, a mile east of Hwy. 87 on Houston Mesa Road on south side. There is no charge, call (928) 474-5242, ext. 7 for more information.

Summer Music Festival

There will be a Summer Music Festival at the Merritt Center, Payson (Star Valley) at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 to benefit the center’s Returning Combat Veterans program. A donation of $35 per adult is requested, children will be admitted free.

Dream Chemistry will provide music with vocals by lead singer Robin Brown (a combat vet), guitarist Larry Samson, jazz saxophone Syl Prious (also a combat vet) and more.

There will be a raffle and activities for the kids, one-of-a-kind auction items and fun for everyone.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Walk the Labyrinth or take a guided tour to the Indian ruins on the 13-acre forested retreat center.

Concert set

The Rim Valley Church of God and the award winning Bost Family Traditions gospel band will have worship and inspirational gospel music beginning at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 22. The church is located at 208 S. McLane Rd, Payson. Admission is free.

The Bost Family Traditions is a five-piece, hard-driving, bluegrass band from Cochise County, Ariz. The Bost family, consisting of Jeff and Pamela Bost with their eight children, play a mix of up-beat, progressive and traditional bluegrass – with a hint of western swing and heaping helping of old-time family humor.
