Lady Niners Ann Adams and Anne Alschuler have earned berths in the prestigious Arizona Women’s Golf Association Medallion Tournament, to be played in December on a Valley area course.
The two nailed down the invitations by winning low net and low gross championships at the Payson Women’s Golf Association medallion qualifying tournament played each Thursday in July.
Alschuler took the low net title, outdueling silver-medalist Brookie Coleman and third-place finisher Catherine Moyer.
Adams claimed the low gross crown by winning in a nine-hole playoff against Kelly O’Neill. In regulation play, the two dead knotted
Isabella Sockrider was third amongst the low gross players.
Members met Aug. 5 at Mazatzal Hotel & Casino to honor those players who had won weekly tournaments during the past month.
Among those lauded were Hazel Beddall and Adams for their tie for first place in a “Fielders’ Choice” formatted tournament played July 1.
Carolyn Davis finished third.
On July 8, Adams continued her domination of Lady Niner action, winning a low net shootout. Alschuler was second and Ce Ce McCain and O’Neill tied for third place.
O’Neill and Davis tied for championship honors in a “best six, half-handicap” fray contested July 15.
Catherine Moyer, Debbie Vincent and McCain tied for second.
On July 22, Adams scored yet another win, outdueling second-place finishers Mary Quigley and Nancy O’Rourke. The skirmish was played in an unusual format in which each golfer’s worst three holes were replaced with a par score.
In a scramble contested July 29, the trio of Coleman, Vincent and Donna Larson was first.
In closest to the pin honors doled out at the Aug. 5 meet, Beddall was a two-time winner and Larson pocketed prize money once. Beddall was also cited for a chip-in and a birdie during July play.
