Have you been thinking of a juicy barbecue sandwich with all the fixings? The day is fast approaching for just that dinner.

The Hellsgate Fire Department auxiliary, aka Fireflies, will be putting on the dinner in just about two weeks. The auxiliary has been hosting this event for a number of years at the Tonto Village Fire Station #22 and the dinner and entertainment by our local DJ, Larry Smith, just keeps getting better with each passing year.

The date is Saturday, Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu includes the pulled barbecue pork sandwich with homemade barbecue sauce, coleslaw, beans and fresh corn on the cob for only $7. A hot dog, coleslaw and beans and corn will also be available for $5. The kids meal for 10 and under is only $3.

The event will also feature a silent auction for many great items such as dinner at local restaurants, unusual decorating items, etc.

The bake sale is another of the events that have become so popular. It features homemade jams and jellies, breads, cookies and the always-popular Texas sheet cakes.

The excitement continues into the day with the raffle drawing at 1:30 p.m. for a homemade queen size quilt, a 20-inch Stihl chain saw and new this year, a beautiful diamond necklace and earring set. The tickets are $1 for one or $5 for six.

All the Fireflies work hard to make this event enjoyable for everyone and at the same time a fund-raiser for our firefighters. This past year, the Fireflies have helped to fund two firefighters for paramedic school. The schooling is so very important to the firefighters since the present paramedics will be retiring in a few years.

A special thank you to our local DJ from KMOG, Rockin’ Ron Gibson for his support of the Fireflies. He has given the auxiliary radio airtime to advertise the auxiliary’s fund-raisers. Thank you so much Ron, for your support.

The Hellsgate Fire Department board awarded two firefighters for years of service at their monthly meeting on Aug. 11 at the Tonto Village Fire Station #22. The firefighters were Rick Heron for 15 years, and Matt Highstreet for eight years of service. Congratulations for your dedication and loyalty to the Hellsgate Fire Department.

There will be a get-together Saturday, Aug. 21 at Hellsgate Fire Station #21 in Star Valley for all the auxiliary members, wives of firefighters and other guests. There will also be a collection of jewelry exhibited for interested persons. The event will begin at 2 p.m. Munchies will be served. Come and get acquainted with the auxiliary and looking at fine jewelry at the same time.

Tonto Village Chapel

This past Saturday, Pastor James Barker and his wife Bernita of Tonto Village Chapel put on a hot dog and hamburger picnic for the community. The kids enjoyed a clown, Ron Van Camp, who showed them some magic tricks and a few games. If you missed it, you missed seeing your neighbors and chatting with them as you enjoyed the food. Thank you Pastor Jim, for your contribution to a friendly community.
