Intermittent rain has been infrequent even with the hopeful clouds we see every day. On Monday we were visited by a storm that may have left .10 of an inch of precipitation. The lightning to our north and east was spectacular though. Many residents have mentioned we need to have more precipitation as we sure could use some.
With the startup up of area schools, the various football teams have began their practices in the local school fields. Mogollon High School’s new all-weather track that surrounds the playing football field is nearing completion The new curbs and sidewalks are completed with signs of “do not cross” still hung across poles that appear to be a 3-foot barrier fence that surrounds the track outside of the sidewalks.
The Ponderosa Lions Club is having its first “Casino Night” Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Wild Women’s Saloon in the Bison Ranch Banquet Room from 6 to 10 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Wild Women’s Saloon, the Bank of the West, Car Quest and the Buckskin Lodge. Entry is $10 for $500 in chips and $1 for each additional increment of $100 in chips. Tickets are limited to 100. The prizes include a side of beef, chain saw, weed eater, flat screen TV, gambling packages, Arizona Diamondbacks pictures, and many more from local merchants. The Rim Community Library at Highway 260 and Mustang in Heber is having a “Book and Bake Sale” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or when everything’s gone), Sept. 4.
There is a free E-Waste Recycling event sponsored by Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and Navajo County from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Navajo County Mogollon Complex, 2188 W. Country Club Drive, in Overgaard. They will take and recycle TVs, computers, monitors, printers, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCRs, CD and DVD players, fax machines, small appliances, cables and cords. No large appliances.
