Trailing 21-20 midway through the fourth quarter, the Longhorn football team rallied with a late touchdown to edge the St. Johns Redskins 26-21.
The game, which was both teams’ season openers, was played Friday evening, Aug. 27, in Longhorn Stadium.
Payson took an early 14-0 lead and had a 14-7 cushion at halftime before the Redskins came roaring back in the third quarter to take their only lead of the game.
The clash was a non-region and non-conference encounter for both schools. The win was also a first for new PHS head varsity coach Byron Quinlan who was an assistant the past two years.
