Tonto Village was covered with snow on Sunday. According to some of my neighbors, the snowfall amount was about 2 inches.
I love the quiet as the snow falls, all sounds are muffled and indeed, the scene is like a winter wonderland. The next day the wind blew ferociously making the snow go in all directions and making the temperature seem a lot colder than it really was. The temperature was 10 degrees on our porch. Wow, that is cold! Imagine what the wind chill factor must have been.
The blustery weather has not stopped the party plans for the Domino Divas and the Hellsgate Fire Department’s Fireflies.
Preparations are ongoing for a combined Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
The meeting room at the fire station in Tonto Village will be decorated for the party and a tree decorated. There will also be a gift exchange and a fantastic buffet lunch. The party will begin at 1 p.m.
The canned food drive sponsored by the Fireflies is still ongoing.
All non-perishable items will be gratefully accepted. The drop-off points are at the fire station in Tonto Village and the fire station in Star Valley on Walter Lane, behind the Moose Lodge. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If the times don’t work for you, you can call Janet Snyder at 928-478-9935 for another time that is convenient for you.
The Fireflies will continue to accept the canned food until a few days before Christmas for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Hellsgate Fire Department
Remember the accident on Highway 87 a few weeks ago where there was an accident with the Life Star Ambulance Service and a vehicle going the wrong way on the Beeline? One of the drivers of the ambulance was EMS Paul Rife of Pine.
Paul was seriously injured in that accident with a spinal cord injury. The firefighters in the surrounding area got together and cut seven cords of wood for Paul’s family this past weekend. The fire departments who helped out were, Hellsgate, Payson Fire, Pine/ Strawberry, and Rio Verde from the Fort McDowell area.
Paul wishes to thank all his buddies in the fire departments for helping out his family in keeping warm while he is hospitalized.
For further information on Paul’s condition and whether there will be future plans to help him and his family, contact the Hellsgate Fire Department in Star Valley. The phone number is 928-474-3835.
The monthly meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board will be on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the Star Valley Fire Station. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are always open to the public and your attendance is welcome.
Chief Gary Hatch wishes to convey his thanks to the fire stations in the area, including Christopher/ Kohl’s Fire Department, stations #21, #22 and #23 for their cooperation in mutual aid for this past weekend. There were multiple accidents on the roads due to the snow accumulation and the icy conditions.
The Hellsgate Fireflies wish to give a huge thank you to Royce O’Donnell for his help to the Fireflies in acquiring some folding chairs for their fund-raisers. Royce unselfishly took a trip to the Valley with his trailer to pick up the chairs. He then helped to unload them at the Tonto Village Fire Station. Thank you, Royce, for helping the Fireflies. The chairs will help tremendously at the fund-raisers next year.
A belated birthday to Hellsgate firefighter reservist David Wells. His big day was on Nov. 29. Here’s hoping that you had a wonderful birthday.
John Haulot will celebrate his birthday Dec. 8. The old-timers in the Village will remember John — he and his wife Flo owned the “Honest John’s Lumber Yard” in the Village in the ’70s, and probably helped build some of the cabins that are still standing. Have a great birthday, John.
Double D Doings
Last Tuesday, the nine-ball pool players got together on Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. and were all ready to shoot some serious nine-ball pool. Christopher Creek came out on top this time. Nanci Olson, and Judy Tolle took the top spots. Sharon from Kohl’s Ranch shot for third place. All you Tonto Village players, you need more practice to beat these gals. Break out those pool cues and practice those bank shots.
