A Shooter's Win In The First Round

The Longhorn boys’ basketball team got off to rip roaring start in the 2010 Cake’s Car Company Shoot Out upending Hopi 57-54 in a first round game played Dec. 2 in Winslow.

Down 12 points in the third quarter, the Horns roared back using what coach Bill Goodwin calls “energy and effort from our bench.”

Still, the Horns trailed by six points with about 1 ½ minutes to play before a determined last gasp effort carried PHS to the “W”.

Josh Oakley led Payson in scoring with 14 and Guillermo Lopez contributed 10.Justin Moratti and Tanner Hintze corralled five rebounds each. The Horns were without the services of Cole Belcher and Cale Novack who were sidelined with maladies.
