The Village is getting to look very festive. Many of the homes are sporting colorful Christmas lights and blow up Santas. Some of the homeowners are decorating their whole yard for the enjoyment of the Villagers.
One sad note, there has been thievery of the decorations at some of the homes. This type of behavior is deplorable! For some time now, there have been things taken from people’s homes, including mine, but now this last bit of thievery is not acceptable! Where is the spirit of Christmas and of giving? I would remind the Villagers to be on the lookout for suspicious behavior and for goodness sakes, if there is anything you value, do not leave it out for anyone to grab!
Since this is the season for live Christmas trees and wood fires (and of course, you have already had your chimney inspected and cleaned, right?), it is a good time to remind folks that having a good fire extinguisher handy is vital.
I talked to one of the administrator assistants at the Hellsgate Fire Station, namely, Karen Carlen, who happened to be very knowledgeable about fire extinguishers. According to Karen, the best fire extinguisher to have in your home is called an ABC
extinguisher. Which means, A for ash, such as from wood, B for barrel, such as any flammable liquid, and C for circuits, meaning any thing electrical. A small one would be fine for a kitchen area and a bigger size could be carried in a vehicle. Karen also mentioned that there are no fire extinguishers that can be recharged locally. It would have to be sent away and the cost would be very expensive, so it would be better to purchase a new one. If you have any more questions about fire extinguishers, call the Hellsgate Fire Department at 928-474-3835.
Hellsgate Fireflies and Domino Divas
The canned food drive is still ongoing. Non-perishable items will be accepted at the Star Valley station and at the Tonto Village station until a few days before Christmas. St Vincent de Paul Society has been hit hard by all the needy folks in the area, so any little bit will help. Open up your cupboards and offer a few cans of food for the people who desperately need your help. If you can’t get to either station, call Janet Snyder at 478-9935 and she will help you.
Scherry Duncan celebrated her birthday Dec. 5. Scherry is the new treasurer of the Hellsgate Fireflies and she lives in Mead Ranch. Sorry Scherry, your birthday should not have been overlooked. Here’s hoping that you had a great day!
Birthdays for the next week are: Dec. 12, Jeff Shaw of Tonto Village III and full-time house painter, part-time reserve firefighter for Christopher/Kohl’s Fire Department and newly elected Tonto Village Domestic Water board member. Busy guy!
On Dec. 13, Carol Fulp, a part-time summer resident will have her big day, and on Dec. 14, Dwayne Long of Long Ranch shares his birthday along with Tonto Village I resident John Digman. On Dec. 15, the day is shared by J.R. Alliger, our local locksmith, and Flo Haulot, who divides her time with the Village and Tonto Basin. Happy birthday to each and every one of you.
Tonto Village Water Improvement District
A special meeting of the water board was held this past week to swear-in the newly elected board members. They were Jeff Shaw and Nick Fitch. Congratulations to you both.
Double D doings
The Double D gals must have been practicing because Linda Stailey of Tonto Village II won first place in the nine-ball tournament played at the Double D on Tuesday evening. Nanci Olson of Christopher Creek shot for second place and Kara Shaw of Tonto Village III took third place. Keep up the great pool playing, gals.
