Holiday bake sale

The Senior Circle Holiday Bake Sale will be held until 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway.

Sharon Myers has donated a beautiful Christmas basket to be raffled. The winner will be announced at the bake sale.

This year’s bake sale is a little different. The home-baked goods will be beautifully displayed and decorated in holiday cookie jars, plates, stockings and tins ready for you to gift or just display as a part of your holiday décor. Jam and Jelly baskets “by Carol” will also be featured, as well as silent auction items.

Thrift store sale

The Pine Strawberry Thrift Store, 3916 N. Highway 87, will have a “Buy One, Get One Free” sale on sweatshirts and sweatpants, excluding matching sets and Christmas clothing. All items in the linen room will be 50 percent off the marked prices, including Christmas linens.

The sale runs from Wednesday, Dec. 15 through Saturday, Dec. 18. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Business Buzz on ASU

The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and Northern Gila County Economic Development Corporation will present the December Business Buzz from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15 at the conference center at the Best Western Payson Inn.

The topic is “ASU/Payson - Arizona State University’s Payson Campus - The Next Discussion...” with Payson Mayor Kenny Evans and Richard Stanley, vice-president of development for ASU.

The meeting will include a lunch catered by Gerardo’s Firewood Café. The cost is $13 per person and reservations are required. Call the chamber at (928) 474-4515 to make a reservation and for more information.

Pioneer Clubs perform at Powell House

Members of the Ponderosa Baptist Church’s Pioneer Clubs — children in the first through fifth grades from throughout Payson — will perform for Powell House residents at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16. The program will include a variety of Christmas songs.

‘A Family Christmas’

A powerful Christmas production titled “A Family Christmas” comes to Payson at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Payson High School Auditorium.

With an original script and music along with contemporary dance, this production will touch the hearts of every member of your family in every stage of life.

“A Family Christmas” is a story of Mr. Johnson and his family. It is about one night, one play, and one decision that changed his life. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and be uplifted as you witness Mr. Johnson’s memory of this special Family Christmas.

This is a free community event sponsored by Payson Community Christian Academy.

Christmas ‘angels’ needed

Seniors to benefit from Angel stops

Local residents and businesses may help the less fortunate seniors in the community by stopping by any Edward Jones branch office during regular business hours to select a “Senior Angel” through Dec. 17. Shop for the senior of your choice and drop off all gifts, which Edward Jones staff will deliver to seniors in need.

Branch addresses are: 411 S. Beeline Highway, Suite B, Payson; 113 W. Main St., Payson; and 4010 N. Highway 87, Pine.

Salvation Army tree still has tags

The Salvation Army’s Angle Tree is up and decorated with tags listing the names and Christmas wishes for area children in need at National Bank of Arizona, 804 S. Beeline Highway, south of the chamber office.

Children’s Christmas Party

The Moose Lodge in Star Valley will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the lodge to present a gifts and candy to all children 12 years and younger. Cookies and punch will also be served.

The Moose Lodge is at 4211 E. Highway 260, Star Valley.

Bell ringers needed

The Salvation Army’s Payson chapter has been very successful this year in filling up the bell ringing slots, except for the week of Christmas, according to Jenny Scott.

Volunteers are needed to fill shifts at Walmart, Walgreens, Bashas’ and Safeway between Monday, Dec. 21 and Friday, Dec. 24. Volunteers will work two-hour shifts and anyone can participate, even people with court ordered community service hours to fill.

Christopher Kohl’s Fire Christmas campaign

Christopher Kohl’s Fire is collecting nonperishable food, and toys to help families and kids in need for Christmas.

For those who prefer to make a cash donation, stop by or contact Christopher Kohl’s Fire at (928) 478-4011 during business hours. There are donation boxes at Walmart, Safeway, Bashas’, Home Depot, Life Star crew quarters, Chase Bank, Kelly’s Saloon, Kohl’s Ranch, Tall Pines and the fire station in Christopher Creek.

Vivaldi concert

Mount Cross Lutheran Church invites Rim Country residents and visitors to attend its Dec. 19 8:30 a.m. service for a special presentation of Vivaldi’s Gloria by the musicians and Chancel Choir of Mount Cross, conducted by Dr. Victoria Harris.

The second service, at 10:30 a.m., is a Celebration of God’s Gifts, with music and prayer conducted by Wes Hathaway and the Praise Team and Praise Band. The public is welcome in this celebration of Christmas.

Benefit wreaths available

New Hope Equine Rescue has a limited number of the popular 25-inch Victorian-style Christmas wreaths available for sale at the New Hope facility in Star Valley in December. These are the same as the beautiful, fresh wreaths from Minnesota sold by New Hope at its recent fund-raising event —they are decorated and include lights.
