Christmas ‘angels’ needed

Seniors to benefit from Angel stops

Local residents and businesses may help the less fortunate seniors in the community by stopping by any Edward Jones branch office during regular business hours to select a “Senior Angel” through Dec. 17. Shop for the senior of your choice and drop off all gifts, which Edward Jones staff will deliver to seniors in need.

Branch addresses are: 411 S. Beeline Highway, Suite B, Payson; 113 W. Main St., Payson; and 4010 N. Highway 87, Pine.

Salvation Army tree still has tags

The Salvation Army’s Angle Tree is up and decorated with tags listing the names and Christmas wishes for area children in need at National Bank of Arizona, 804 S. Beeline Highway, south of the chamber office.

Artist of the Rim Gallery supports area charities

Shop local and support local charities. Between Dec. 17 and Dec. 31, Artists of the Rim Fine Art Gallery, 408 W. Main St., is sponsoring its first annual fund-raising event to help support Time Out Shelter, Humane Society of Central Arizona, the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and Payson Community Kids.

Participating artists will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from sales made between Dec. 17 and Dec. 31 to the listed nonprofits.

The members of the cooperative gallery urge their neighbors in the Rim Country to support Payson, support Payson’s artists and support Payson’s charities.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Dec. 18 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Dec. 19 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned. No household garbage, construction debris, or other items will be accepted.

RPAP brush pits are intended for the use of private citizens who are working to clear their properties for wildfire risk reduction and to create defensible space around their homes. They are not intended for commercial use.

Santa event

Santa is coming to Patterson Farms Saturday, Dec. 18. Between noon and 3 p.m., visitors can meet Santa and ride one of Santa’s helper ponies for $5. Pictures by a professional photographer may be purchased for additional charge.

The event will include coupons for lessons, door prizes and other fun things to do so take the whole family out for some outdoor fun.

Healthy Living program

Cynthia Booth, M.D. is hosting a special educational event called “Healthy Living” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Payson Regional Medical Center Outreach Center (Senior Circle).

This unique program will help empower women to make informed health and well-being decisions.

Human Rights Awareness Month

The last event of Payson’s first Human Rights Awareness Month is Saturday, Dec. 18.

Join members of the Payson chapter of Amnesty International at East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto St., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a Human Rights movie and discussion. The movie is Rabbit-Proof Fence.  Special guest for the afternoon is Regional Field Organizer Sara Schmidt, Amnesty International USA, who will lead a discussion about this award-winning movie and human rights following the film. There is no charge for the movie. Tax-deductible donations will be accepted to further local human rights actions.

Mount Cross Lutheran Church invites Rim Country residents and visitors to attend its Dec. 19 8:30 a.m. service for a special presentation of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” by the musicians and Chancel Choir of Mount Cross, conducted by Dr. Victoria Harris.

Children’s Christmas Party

The Moose Lodge in Star Valley will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the lodge to present gifts and candy to all children 12 years and younger. Cookies and punch will also be served.

The Moose Lodge is at 4211 E. Highway 260, Star Valley.
