Last Thursday, Hellsgate Fire Department Chief Gary Hatch hosted a Christmas party for all of the firefighters and their spouses. Teddy Tomerlin generously deep-pitted the turkey and the pork shoulder which was absolutely falling off the bone. The oak wood was donated and Doug Blazer and his brush crew hauled it all over to Teddy’s home.
The rest of the meal was potluck style with many varied dishes and desserts.
A skit called “The Three Bears” narrated by Chief Hatch, was hilarious; Papa Bear was played by Rick Heron and his wife Lori, Mama Bear by Bobby Mollere and his wife Willie, and Baby Bear was Bill Snyder and his wife Janet. A surprise visit by Goldilocks, also known as “Goldilegs,” Bill Dupke, showed up in costume, blond wig, and lipstick and greeted each bear with a big kiss! Then skipped along the tables with greetings of Christmas and other niceties. There was also a very unique gift exchange which was also a whole bunch of fun, but too complicated for me to explain how it was done. Needless to say, the evening was a great success, and a whole lot of fun was had by all.
The office in Star Valley was closed Thursday, so Angie Lecher and Karen Carlen could attend a class on the updated information for CPR training. The office will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.
Firefighter Nick DeGroot will celebrate his third anniversary as a firefighter with the Hellsgate Fire Department on Jan. 1. Nick is now going through paramedic training and should finish in about three months.
The Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary held their Christmas party at the Tonto Village Fire Station last Wednesday and it was co-hosted by the Domino Divas. The food was wonderful, as always, the gals are such great cooks. The gift exchange was great fun. Gift cards were popular this year. Some of the gifts were exchanged as much as three times. Dara Sutton, who is an “elf” during the Christmas season, looked up everyone’s elf name. Mine was “Cute Poinsettia.” Each person’s name was different but also had a Christmas theme. Thank you Dara for all that research. It was fun. A raffle was held for a rosemary tree and Linda Stailey had the winning ticket. Congratulations! Thank you to all who came to the party, the support is greatly appreciated.
The Christmas food drive for St. Vincent de Paul Society is still ongoing for the month of December. Remember to bring your non-perishable items to either the Star Valley Fire Station or the Tonto Village Fire Station or call Janet Snyder at 478-9935 for pick up. The items can be left at the stations Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One load of groceries was taken to St Vincent de Paul Society last week and the total was 65 pounds. It would be wonderful if that could be doubled for the next pick up. Please help us meet that goal.
Rita Spalink of Tonto Village II starts this week off with a birthday on Dec. 19, followed by Thompson Draw II resident, Carol O’Dell on Dec. 22. Jan Farmer of Tonto Village I is next with her birthday on Dec. 23. Happy birthday to each and every one of you.
