A local woman has found a novel way to get rid of more than a hundred new neckties all while giving back to the community.
For the past few weeks, Joan Young has been selling cravats she bought from a yard sale with all proceeds going toward the Payson Area Food Drive.
So far, Young has collected $340 for the food drive and has dozens more silk ties available for sale.
Ties are $3 for one or $2 if you buy more than 10. The neckties are available for purchase at ReRuns Resale Boutique, 503 W. Main St., through Monday. You can also call Young at (928) 472-2264 for more information or to buy.
Young explained when she stumbled upon the large box of ties at a yard sale several weeks ago, she knew she could put them to good use.
All of the ties are new, wrapped and valued around $15. Gift boxes are also available and cost $1.
Young hopes to collect at least $400 for the townwide food drive, which kicked off Nov. 15.
Organizers hope to raise 55,000 pounds of food and $25,000 by Super Bowl Sunday. Up to now, 20,100 pounds and $7,327 has been collected. All donations are distributed locally to needy families and individuals this holiday season.
Drop a bag of food off at any Payson Area Food Drive labeled box. Several are set up at Walmart. You can also send a check to PAFD, P.O. Box 703, Payson, AZ 85547.
